The problem

Fingerprints are now a liability

In February 2024 the ICO ordered one employer to stop checking attendance with face and fingerprint data across 38 sites and more than 2,000 staff, and to destroy the data. The reason: staff had not been offered an alternative.

Any employer using biometric data must complete a mandatory impact assessment and answer, in writing, “why wouldn't a less intrusive method do?” The decision named cards and key fobs as acceptable alternatives.

That question never comes up here, because no biometric data ever reaches the system.

The flow

What happens in one tap

Five steps, two seconds. All your staff ever see is the phone screen — never the server side on the right.

  1. The tap Staff touch the middle of the phone to the tag. No app to install, no account to create.
  2. The tag signs it On every tap the chip produces a fresh address, signed with the key inside it, valid once.
  3. The server checks the signature If the signature doesn't match, or the address has been used before, nothing is recorded.
  4. The phone proves who it is Face ID or the PIN stays inside the phone. Only a mathematical signature reaches the server.
  5. The record is written The server decides whether it's a clock in or a clock out. The screen closes after three seconds.

The difference

Why it can't be copied

An ordinary NFC tag

It carries a fixed number. Anyone who can read that number can write it to a second tag — an ordinary phone is enough. Most attendance systems on the market use these tags.

Our tag

It carries no fixed number. On each tap it produces a new address, signed with the key inside it. There is nothing static to copy, so it cannot be duplicated.
